Who we are

July 27, 2024 Christie Collis
Collis family portrait, by The Front Porch

Hello!

We are the Collis’ - a young family living a slower pace, between the sea and the trees in Denmark, Western Australia.

In 2011, we took the trip down from Perth to visit family, felt a ‘coming home’ as we drove into the trees by the river, and left having spontaneously found the shack of our dreams. A humble 1970s fibro, nestled between salt and earth - not too much, not too little, to start a new chapter, a slower pace.

A few years on brought a marriage in the backyard, two boys brought home to the good life and the decision to share our piece of paradise with the world by converting the shed to a purpose built, pared back and comfortable guest stay.

A labour of love, self designed and built by us purposefully for one-day elderly family and meantime family, friends and guests - The Slow Drift is an expression of creativity, a place of escape and a connection to community for us.

We welcome you to come and stay, to leave the rush at home and experience what it is to step outside of your life for a just a moment - to breathe deeper, to stare a little longer, to drink the sounds of country living by the sea and imagine what it would be like - to throw it all in and embrace a slower, simpler way of life.

From our family to you, welcome to The Slow Drift.

Recipe for a Slower Life

01 : Breathe deeply, often.

02 : Say yes to that which sparks your flame, say no to all else

03 : Make time, for yourself first

04 : Go outside - salt, sand + sun fix everything

05 : If all else fails, pack up and move to the sea

WE ARE ON INDIGENOUS LAND

The Slow Drift acknowledges the Minang people as traditional custodians of the country on which we work and live, both past, present and emerging. We recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community.
